Easter Holiday Club 2018

We have had a fun filled first week of holiday club, with lots of Easter activities. We baked and decorated Easter cup cakes and had great fun playing blind folded food games. We also enjoyed a very muddy Easter egg hunt in Lawton Wood, this was great fun and we found lots of eggs  in very tricky places.

We made grass caterpillars for the outdoor area, filling tights with compost and grass seed,  we will have to wait and see what happens!

Our egg rolling competition was very exciting, we decorated hard boiled eggs and then made are way through the mud to the big hill. We each rolled our egg down, to see which egg would go the furthest without breaking.

We finished the week with a very crafty morning, making lots of different Easter crafts.

February Half Term Holiday Club

What a fantastic holiday club we have had this half term. Our theme was materials, we made super cardboard creations and used cardboard to create a remote control car off road course.

We also learnt how to weave and make paper dragons that blew fire and in the afternoon went on a lovely walk.

Our trip to Macclesfield bowling was great fun, everybody enjoyed the bowling and we had some very impressive scores.

After practising our weaving, we didnt miss the opportunity to demonstrate our sewing skills. We made felt keyrings and bag charms that turned out really well. What do you think?

We finished our week on Friday making cork heroes and wooden spoon characters and as always enjoyed being outside,

Thank you to everyone who came to holiday club last week. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

January Holiday Club 2018

What a fun first week of the New Year we have had.  We baked and decorated gingerbread biscuits, that looked very tasty.

We also showed off our creative skills, decorating tiles, making snow globes and designing jar lantern,

We went on a trip to  Potters Barn that was great fun, we were given  a choice of pottery to paint and then had a short lesson on how to make a clay animal from a ball of clay. Our painted pottery looked really effectice and our clay models turned out really well too. Can you guess what animals we made?

We went on a nature trail past the wishing stream, this was made even more fun by the huge muddy puddles and amount of mud we had to make our way through.

On the last day of holiday club we made bird feeders and bird houses. We mixed lard and bird seed and put this into plant pots to hang out for the birds.

A day in the life of a puppeteer

We made hand and finger puppets out of a range of different materials and performed puppet shows to our friends.

A day in the life of a winter athlete

Our tubing trip to  Stoke Ski Centre was definitely one of our favourites. This was so much fun dragging the tubes to the top of the hill and then racing our friends to the bottom of the slope as fast as we could.

A day in the life of a builder

We practised our brick laying skills using butter cream and sponge bricks to make a wall.

In the afternoon we built lots of models out of different construction toys. Can you guess what any of our models are?

A day in the life of an artist

Today we got to show off our artistic talent, painting on tiles.

In the afternoon we made sand sculptures, this needed a lot of patience but they turned out really well in the end.

A day in the life of a Police Officer

We were visited by PCSO Jessica Shore who came to Merekats to talk to us about her role and what it was like to be a Police Officer. We learnt about the different jobs that the police had to do and were given the opportunity to ask questions. We also got to try on the police uniform and sit in the police car and couldn’t believe how heavy some of the uniform was. We heard about how the police use finger prints and made our own prints on paper.

Thank you for visiting us we really enjoyed it and learnt alot about what a day in the life of a Police Officer was like.

A day in the life of a ranger

Our day at Swettenham Arboretum was great fun. We started off exploring in the woods and made dens and pretend fires out of sticks and branches.

We had a picnic lunch in the Arboretum and then walked around the nature trail. We spent the afternoon using clay to create faces in the trees. Can you make out any of our characters?

A day in the life of a joiner

We thought carefully about how we could make our own designs out of wood. There were some fantastic ideas and so much work went into making the models. We had to measure out the wood, cut it to size using a mini saw and then glued it all together in the correct position using the glue guns, with  lots of adult supervision.
